STAND BY: This what you hear
from an aircraft controller on the
radio when you have called them and
they don't have time to talk to you
right away. It is a polite way
to say, "Hold on, I'll get back to
you when I can." The correct
response is "Standing by."
That means, "I'm politely waiting."
It is also something you will hear
from a bar tender when you call for
a Warbird in a crowded bar where
your order cannot be taken right
away. In that case, you should
just smile and nod and wait.
It is worth it. Being polite
will almost always get you taken
care of eventually.
